June News

Hello everyone! Summer is officially here – congratulations to all of my students who performed in the recitals on May 20th, you all did a fantastic job!! Here at NSMA we’ll be starting summer lessons soon (summer lessons are 6/10-8/14), so here are a few reminders for you!

Reminder: I am out of the country May 21-June 6. I have no phone access and limited internet access, and may not be able to respond to emails until I get back. I don’t think we should have any emergencies while I’m gone, so I just ask that you please be patient if you have any questions about summer lessons/performances/workshops, I promise I will address those when I am able to.

American Cancer Society Relay for Life: I am thrilled to announce that NSMA students will be performing at this year’s American Cancer Society Relay for Life here in Juneau at Riverbend School/Dimond Park June 8 & 9! The Relay for Life is a great cause raising awareness and money for cancer research, and one dear to my heart as I have had many family members affected by cancer. Our students will be performing Saturday June 9 at 2:00pm – please come out to support them and to support the Relay for Life!

Rehearsals for Relay for Life Performance: I will be holding rehearsals for the Relay for Life performance Friday June 8 2-5pm. If you haven’t signed up for a rehearsal time slot yet, please do so asap! I’ll be sending out email reminders when I get back in town, but that will only give people 24 hours notice, so please make sure you mark your calendars!

Musical Theater Master Workshop: I am also pleased to announce that NSMA will be putting on its first Master Workshop with guest NYC artist Terry Lynn LeCompte! Held July 16-28, 20 students will have the opportunity to work with Terry Lynn and I on musical theater songs and acting with a culminating performance at the end of the workshop. Please contact me for more information on the workshop and how to get registered.

Our Move: NSMA will be moving into its new location throughout June, but all lessons in June will be held at the Arctic Circle location. Starting July 1st, all lessons forward will be held at the Sawa Circle location. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this move and transition into our new location.

If you are a potential new student and are interested in summer lessons, I do have a few openings in my schedule still. Please fill out the online Registration Form or contact me for more information on NSMA and how to get signed up for lessons.

Music Around Town:

The Juneau Symphony will be performing their Summer Pops concert “The Big Band Sound” Saturday June 9th at 8pm at the JDHS auditorium. The Symphony will be joined by the Thunder Mountain Big Band for this performance, please visit www.juneausymphony.org for more information and tickets. Tickets are also available at Hearthside Books, the JACC, and at the door.

The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council has a running list of community activities available online at www.jahc.org.

That's all for now! Thank you all for continuing to make music an important part of your life!!
